R1 turbo!!
skydivepaul - 21/6/06 at 09:03 PM

Has anyone on here stuck a turbo on an R1??
just thinking ahead for a bit more power, any advice greatfully received on costs, whats involved, results etc.
Do you have to lower the compression much?

Deckman001 - 21/6/06 at 09:20 PM

The owner of the R1 Indy that I'm wiring up at the moment is all ready thinking of this, apparently the company he is thinking of using will do any/all the work needed, even head porting work, I'll find out who he has been in contact with for ya and let ya know

theres a r1 fury turbo. it isnt cheap unless you want to do all the work yourself and even then you are talking into the thousands. you can safely run about 7-8psi without lowering the compression and should net around 250bhp or maybe a touch more.

try talking to holeshot they seem to do most of the bike turbo setups.

a thicker head gasket can lower the ratio a bit, though obviously you have to find one rather than sticking two together!

Ring holeshot and ask if they sell thick headgaskets, then at least you will find if they are available!

if you run low boost you should be able to keep in a certain budget

l agree phone holeshot

Looking into doing my 919 blade. Holeshot do all the bits you need, but will cost about 3k to do. Going to have a go myself when i can get round to it.

Click here for Holeshot Turbo page R1

skydivepaul - 22/6/06 at 08:23 AM

thanks lads.
i'll give holeshot a call, they are only a few minutes from where i work.
I am sure i can lose a few of the bits from their shopping list, silencer etc to bring the price down a bit
£2500 for 250bhp is good value though.

An alternative is to install a Rotrex C15 supercharger especially if you can do the fabrication yourself.

TTS performance could help you with that.

The initial cost of the Rotrex may put you off at first but the mounting is relatively easy compared to a turbo.

I'm going this route as the power delivery is more linear than a turbo. I also didn't want lots of torque at low RPM.

They do turbos for R1 kit cars which are cheaper:

This is looking very exciting for a winter project

I think it was holeshot that the builder I know was talking about

Where you work? I'm only a few minutes from there too - on Rooley Lane - and I'm off to Holeshot tomorrow morning (though to get my carbs setup for a standard quiet can, not get a turbo fitted )

Cool, I drive past there every day - Cutler Heights/Dick Lane is my commute! Quite a coincidence, I think your car is the one that was for sale in Scotland back end of last year? I seriously contemplated that car before I bought mine - it was just the wrong time for me!

You will have missed me at Holeshot, I was there about 8-10am. See my other thread for details.

Sorry didn't see your post before I went so didn't ask specifically, but he did mention that there was a blackbird in the process of being turbo'd! Would have hung aroun longer but I was skiving work so had to get back

a bit late i know but try this www.turbo-bike.net just what u are looking for.

speed8 - 10/8/06 at 07:09 AM

Crap.......

Don't keep bringing posts like this to the surface. I'm not even finished yet and just got thoughts of turbos out of my head.

250bhp in a 9R Worx, mmmmm that should be over 500/ton

No, stop those thoughts right now.

gttman - 11/8/06 at 01:34 PM

I 2nd that.... nearing the end of both the build and cost....... and then the word 'Turbo' appears and all hell breaks loose!

ChrisGamlin - 11/8/06 at 04:54 PM

When you work out how much it will REALLY cost it will soon put you off
