Afternoon all,
I have spent the morning playing with my new toy, a PACE dry sump kit for my zx12. All was going well unitl I got to finding somewhere to fit the oil
tank, space in the engine bay is at a premium and trying to shoehorn a 6.5 x 16 inch tank is very taxing. The only real space available is at the back
of the engine bay, inbetween the footwell guards above the propshaft.
My question is this: I know the oil tank base should be level with the pump in an ideal world but what would happen if the oil tank base was about 4
inches above the pump? will the oil can drain back into the sump?
any help appreciated,
Chris
i'm no expert but surely if the tank is full ofoil then you have a head of pressure even if the tank is level with the pump?? raising the tank 4
inches can't change it that much. i could see a problem if the tank was below the pump.....
Cheers, rich.
I had too mount one higher once, oil did drain into the sump over time but I had no problems, not saying its ok too do but it worked fine for me, mine is currently level and it still drains back a bit as the oil level in the tank is higher than the sump bottom anyway, unless someone can give a cast iron reason why not then from my experience go for it.
i put mine in the passenger foot well then sealed it off ,passengers can get one foot down the side so its not to bad for them but i dont really car.

if you put it higher isn't there going to be
a) auto priming the 5 port pump
b) back pressure trying to go past the pump and into the sump
why not shorten the footwell (like caterham) and steal the space there.
I wouldn't have thought 4 inches would make much practical difference. Just check that the scavenge pumps aren't struggling too much to lift enough oil - wouldn't have thought they would really!
Picture speaks a thousand words, so theres a 2000 word essay for you

it sure does! looks good and is a possible solution, will have a play next weekend and it might just work.
