Error codes!!!!!!!!

I know this has been discussed before but I've tried everything that has been suggested. My problem is the 8000rpm fuel sender not connected correctly error. I've tried various resistors, and a 1K variable set to different positions to con the diagnostics, and now resorted to a R1 fuel sender from a breakers but still I get the error. Any ideas?

I'm preparing the car for it's SVA retest which won't fail because of the error, but it's driving me mad and I want a working tacho. The clocks are 4XV 1998.

Are you shorting the right wire for the fuel sender? (I know I was fooled by my data - turned out to be green/yellow)
Also the exup code is quite close at 7500rpm - you sure you have the right code? 1k worked for me (it's on the left of this little circuit http://freespace.virgin.net/bob.carter/images/exupcct.jpg)

mine jumped up to about 9k for the fuel sender

so I just shorted the wires together its a green connector few inches from the rectifier unit

YES the fuel light is on all the time but so what

OK, I've checked the wiring and it's green and white direct to the clocks, and black to earth. Joining them together gives the same error. The actual reading is about 8500 rpm on the tacho, with the fuel sender, a 1K resisitor or a variable. Looks like the car is going back to SVA with a dancing tacho unless anyone else has any ideas?

IIRC 470 ohm seemed to do the trick on my injected engine for the Exup and I think the fuel sender too, but probably different as the injected engine has the sender built into the pump

I used a 10k resistor on my 5JJ as that's all I had at the time, though it only causes the fuel light to flash on the later carb'd units....

touching the two wires together from the fuel sender plug on a 4xv should make the loom think theres no petrol and your petrol light come on it will stop the tacho error reading..

if it doesnt then its not your fuel sender mate

try the exup valve aswell

I've tried that so I'll have to check the others possible errors. I Just hope my clocks are ok, these are the second set I've had.
