Catalyst Silencers?
russbost - 19/9/06 at 07:19 AM

This ebay item came up in another thread
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-SILENCER-EXHAUST-6552-95B-65863-95C_W0QQitemZ260031834522QQihZ016QQcategoryZ10458QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
& I happened to notice on one of the pics it says "catalyst" stamped into the silencer surface. So are these silencers also cats &, if so, how many bike exhausts are there out there like this - would it only be import stuff from the States etc? Anyone know anything more on this?

There's a place in Lincolnshire called Tube Engineers (or something like that) who do bike silencers with built in cat - £2-300 I think.

As I understand it, a lot of newer bikes do have them (maybe all?), but bikes have to meet much less stringent emission levels than we do for cars, so they generally aren't efficient enough to get through SVA

Pity, might have made life far too easy!

But i think you will find californian emissions laws are a little more strict than ours...

You could be lucky with an american cat/silencer.. trouble is a lot of bikes fit them in the collector not the silencer...
