Mounting a bike battery flat
alister667 - 23/9/06 at 12:01 PM

I have a motorbike battery - it's a for a fireblade a sealed type, I was
just wondering is it OK to mount this battry lying flat? I know it's a
big no no with car batteries, but I'm sure I've seen some bike batteries
mounted like that. Will it leak?

Thanks in advance

Actually I am not sure but considering when you buy them you have to put the acid into them and push the caps on then I would think this is asking for trouble, I'd say if you can then keep it upright.

Rich.

You can if it is the Gel type and not the conventional lead acid - otherwise it is a big no-no.

As said, you need a gel or dry battery, odessy batteries are good, you can mount them just about anywhere, Got mine from MNR for a very reasonable amount. Went through 3 supposedly sealed bike batteries before that, and they all leaked, even mounted upright.
