is it a legal requirement to have a reverse on the car? for mot's and trackdays etc?

Nope only for some race series.

No reverse needed for SVA, MOT, road use, Trackdays.

You will need it if you want to race, you have to be able to reverse 6ft over a 1inch high piece of wood or something like that!

Basically if you're stuck in the middle of the track and cars are hurtling towards you you might feel the need to reverse quick!!!
