would anybody know where i can buy a lightweight silencer with a built in cat that would be quiet enough for sva that would work with an r1 engine?

Dave at Powerspeed Exhausts in Kent used to rent/lend them out to his customers. The one I had was basically a 5" silencer that Dave modified with a cat and he welded whatever size inlet pipe you need. Not free but a cheap and dirty way to pass SVA.

There's a place in Lincolnshire called Tube Engineers (check Yell.com) - they do one for about £200 (I think it's that much).

If you go to www.dodgyroger.com, he used the same unit and seemed to pass SVA with no drama's in that area.

do you need a cat for the MOT?

Yep, my mate's Megabusa recently went for its MOT and he needed to fit one. I think previously you could often get away with it but with the new computerised MOT system the computer automatically tells the tester what to test for, so its less likely to happen.
