installing a 2004 fazer into an mk indy, coupled up the fuel pump using the bike loom and the sierra ignition switch.with the fuel hose disconnected at the carbs and the ignition turned to position 2 it pumps fuel through but after about 5 secs the pump stops. tried coupling fuel hose to the carbs and the engine fires up and runs but again after about 5 secs it stops.could there be a sensor that is kicking in and shutting down the pump. i am not using the bike clocks so do not have a fault code. any help appreciated.
the wiring as far as i am aware is the same as the carbed r1.

If your that close too a runner feed the pump from live feed from ignition ? Put a switch in the feed if you wish ?

you could try rigging up a gravity fed system for the fueling, a few feet should be enough pressure to make ti run.

With my carbd bike engine the fuel pump is wired direct to an ignition feed, avoiding the bike loom. Obviously it regulates its own pressure etc.

Put a bulb in place of the fuel pump on the loom, see if the bulb goes out after the 5 secs

If it does it the feed that dies.. if not it something within the pump itself.


Maybe its just a priming phase it goes through before startup and then it gets its running feed from elsewhere?.

A lot of fuel injection systems do this and I was just about to start ripping out the entire wiring (cursing like a viking in the process) when a mate explained. The initial short run when you turn to live ignition (before you start) is to prime the fuel rail. The ECU then re-starts the pump when it picks up the missing tooth on the crank position sensor. If your not using that sensor then then ECU thinks that you've not started the car yet and hence it cuts out after 5 secs. As suggestions above - Wire it permanently to the ignition circuit...

I think that 5 sec bit is the initail priming phase to ensure the floats are full. As said, if this is the only thing stopping it, just hard wire it in.

in case of an accident pressure could be lost in the carbs and the fuel pump could be started!

just search for the other feed line from the mcu to the pump to enable it while engine runs / cranks..
