Hi All,
Can you help me please.
I’m building my car for track day use only and completely stripped the loom down to the bare minimum.
The good news I got the engine started yesterday.
From the ECU I have these wires left;
1. Black/yellow, black/red & white/red they should go to the Exup valve, can I leave them disconnected?
2. A Blue/red, I’ve no idea on this one.
3. A brown/black.
Also from the speed sensor I have a blue/yellow wire that should go to the instrument cluster, I don’t have one. Can this be left off?
I have 2 single white wires, one is for the neutral light, is the other oil pressure? if so can I wire it up to a bulb?
This is a long shot, I bought a rev counter from Rufforth at the beginning of the month, it has 2 wires to it. Any idea if I can use it? It came from
a racing bike that revved to 14K.
Thanks in advance,
Andy
I know I know, it's my fault for buying a Fazer engine.
Cheers,
Andy
I dont think its that mate all wiring even when you have diagrams etc is still a mission.
Its always gonna be a bit of luck or knowledge from someone who has already done it.
I Presume you have a wiring diagram if not i know there is somewhere on the net that has lots of workshop manuels for download.

What make is the rev counter? Where abouts are you?
All,
Thanks for your replies...honest.
TimC
I'm working on it now so I will try.
Coose,
I'm in Haxby.
The rev counter, not sure but it's off a bike and revs to 14k it looks like it has a Ground, and 2 more wires.
Cheers,
Andy
Chris
WTF is tacho tang? Sounds like something that causes itching in your pants?!
I guess it refers to fault codes on the standard clocks? I'm not using them (and neither is Andy by the sounds of it) so presumably nowt for us
to worry about???
Ah ok - cheers.
That's the preferred option for the VR2 I'm using anyway.
TC
Andy,
Can you take a photo of the front and rear of the tacho and I'll try to find out what it's off?
As you're not using any of the Yamaha instruments you can leave the EXUP servo disconnected, so long as you don't use the tacho output from
the ECU and you use a coil output instead (as Chris mentioned). If the tacho that you have isn't compatible with this you might have to get one
that is.
The brown/black wire connects downstream of the ignition fuse.
The rest is as Tim stated.
Hope this helps? I'll wave next time I'm passing!

Tim,
Yes it is, but I was just stating that the ignition fuse was the origin to clarify!
Cool - I'm easily confused!
Thanks guys for you help.
7:00 pm Sunday and I've been in the garage all weekend, but I'm getting there.
I'll take some pics of the clocks tonight and post them.
I'm trying to get it ready for the track day at Elvington in a couple of weeks, for me it's the best way of working by giving myself a
deadline.
So far I have the engine up and running, but on about 3.5 cylinders, if I put my hand over the bell mouth of no 1 cylinder it runs on 4!, I'll
leave it for now.
Paddle shift now connected and working.
Tank now installed, pump connected and working.
Rad now in, but no header tank, should not need one.
Dash fitted with neutral light, and on /off switch.
Leaving;
Brakes to bleed.
Seats and belts to fit.
rev counter, water temp and oil pressure light.
Check that everything has been tightened.
Get the rivnut tools from work and fit the Roll Bar.
Put oil in the diff.
That’s it I think, again thanks for all your help.
Cheers,
Andy
Coose,
I think the clocks are from a Honda maybe a VFR400, I've just checked my sons bike, they are not the same but maybe fom a different model.
Look in my photos.
Cheers,
Andy
