Blade engine running on when hot

i have just had my engine running for about 1/2 hour to check temps and fan cut in and went i went to shut it off it just kept running for 10-15 seconds. no matter what i did with the ignition key or starter button it kept going.

its never done it before, but its never been run up to temperature before

Its a 97 blade engine.?

Ps i got my sva tommorow and it might look a bit funny.

Possibly running lean causing high internal temps or maybe a bad engine earth?

Definatly sounds like weak (lean) running.
Are you using the standard airbox or do you have foam filters, if foam will certainly need richening if not re-jetting.

im running a standard air box,
i have fitted the fishtank valve for the sva test that are screwed into the bottom of the carbs..

if its running to lean is there any way of adjusting it (i presume lean means not enough fuel )


I suppose this is why its not revving above 6.5-7 k..lets just hope it revs to 6750 for the noise test

any quickish remedies that i can do by tommorow morning..

Adjusting the mixture screws may help a bit, out is richer, try 1'2 to 1 turn on each. Though this ciuld defeat the airbleed thing that you've rigged?
Your experience is reminding me why I was so keen to SVA with a 93 engine

I've heard that its possible for the fan to turn into a generator when the ignition is cut and therefore keeping the ECU powered up.

Bit of a pig, you need a good light, smallish screwdriver and a mirror!
They are on the underside

This might indicate that the whole show is weak though and will need more than just the pilot/idle mixture adjusting, main jets too, but as you say , get the pass then play....

Better not take it outside and give it full beans this time of nite..Or divorce would probabley follow..



Will try it tommorow morn on way to tesco to fill up, before it goes on truck to test centre.

'In' is richer, and the mixture screws only have an effect at tickover. Try raising the needles, and then try slightly larger main jets if you have them.

I guess to rule out my thoughts you could just put battery power on the 2 fan connections to see if it still happens even when cold.

Another thing, depending on how you've wired up the rev counter, its possibly only reading half the actual rpm.

There are twin coils so it depends how you are taking your feed and what your dash is doing with them.
