ZX12-Running temps
the moa 2 - 22/12/06 at 11:21 PM

I have finally started my engine and now need to set up the cooling.

Im running an electric water pump with a thermostat controller and also a adjustable fan switch.

Can anyone advise what the running temp should be and at what point the fan should come on.

Any help mucho appreciatedo.

Are you using a Davies Craig pump & controller? If so you can lower the range of the working temp of the controller by putting a resistor across the sensor (if you think you are running too hot)

I seem to remember they run a little hotter than most engines, but as to weather this is due to under cooling or because they're supposed to I don't know. Something in the region of 95-98 ºC.

Yes it comes with the resistor to reduce if required.

So 95-98 hot idle and if it steps over switch the fan on yes ?

Sounds about right to me, although I'd wait for someone to confirm before trusting me on the life of your engine!
Try U2U'ng G.MAN, as he runs a ZX12R in Malta ( I think) and if he keeps his cool, you should be ok.

Erm .... no .... I think he's from Cyprus However i'm hoping to be the first guy to run a ZX12R BEC in Malta lol

Well, I knew one of you was from Malta! Cyprus isn't that far away!

95 to 98 is typical - our fan kicks in at 96

It's the oil temp that takes the hammering... esp on trackdays. If your going to doind plenty I'd advise an oil cooler.

Cheers hellfire .

We do have an oil cooler already thanks.
I dont need to put a fan on that aswell do i ?

I ended up fitting a pace 4 core westfield race rad to mine to keep it cool, ie not boil over...

The polo/golf rad wasnt up to the job and the coolant capacity was too low for cyprus temps...

With ambient temps in the high 30's and low 40's water temp in traffic was a nightmare..

That was ith water wetter as well..

it runs @98 when its all ok...

Cheers G.Man.

Hopefully my polo rad will be alright for UK temps. Is the Pace Westfield rad a stright swap or did it take some modifications to fit ?

Not a straight swap, inlet and outlet are on opposite sides instead of same sides..
