Do most folk start with an original item?

Yep, original blade cable is long enough and can be used.

The one Westfield supply for the Megablade is based on a Mk3 Cortina / Mk2 Escort I think, might be worth a look at the local factors.

the standard sierra cable can be used with a couple of flats filed onto the clutch end nipple and a ring end grubscrewed onto the pedal end

Built from scratch using inner and outer from the roll (MK).
Solder nipple at engine end and screw on at pedal end.
Broke first day!
Re soldered with plumbing flux and a bigger flange, OK since.
