comparisons to R1
roadrunner - 12/2/07 at 09:15 PM

Been looking at R1 engines o Fleebay, and just wondered ,is there a similar engine, that will provide the tourqe and power of a R1.
Why are the engines on fleebay missing there carbs.
Cheers Brad.

Try a engine like tim & tom has i think it is a faser is that right ?

the Fazer does not deliver its power the same as an R1

the one is a a sports tourer the other is a Super Bike

externally almost look the same internals have different different specs to deliver different power bands etc

there is no better bang for buck as the r1 but the zx12r at £1500 is flipping super duper

tom windmill - 12/2/07 at 11:50 PM

fazer might not have the same overall power output as the R1 but it sure has plenty of torque, also for 400 quid from ebay with everything there and only 4000 miles on whos gonna complain!! Anyway Brad why do you want to know?? seen the light and decided to go with a bec?lol

Cheers Tom

G.Man - 13/2/07 at 12:40 PM

Hayabusa........ - just don't look at the cost......

Have a look here:
Drag Day Results

You might have to look in peoples archives if you're not familiar with the individual cars and what engines they are running and of course it's not terribly scientific, but should give a guide on how ZX9 compares to R1 to 'Blade to ZX12 etc.

As you can see from the times, it's no slouch and with decent rubber on I Know I could have gone quicker. I've recently just bought another engine (you can't have to many engines). I bought it from a guy who is part of some American Fazer Club (dont ask), any way he was saying that the Fazer has far more grunt than the R1 mid range, but when you get to over 8000 revs the R1 has more power. Therefore upto 8000 Revs the Fazer has it. He was also telling me how easy it is to get 150bhp at the back wheels and relativly cheep to, because, as he explained, in standard tune it's some what strangled. I can see some modifications on the horizon.
I have driven an R1 powered car and in all honesty I can say that the Fazer drove better, maybe it's the set up I'm not sure, but in terms of driveabillity the Fazer rearly, in my opinion has the upper hand. If I were to build again, it would certanly be my engine choice. I have completed approx 3500 miles in the car, with every thing standard, clutch sump etc. with no problems at all. Included in that milage has been some good track day fun.

would mk build you a cradle for it or would it have to be a diy job?

Yep Mk do a cradle for the Fazer.

What power out put is the fazer and what 0-60 times can i expect? was thinking of using a R1 but at such a cheaper price the fazer might be an option depending on the performance.

zxrlocost - 16/2/07 at 09:09 AM

all the bike engine cars are capable of late 3's early 4's to 60 mate

put it this way there wont be much your way that could keep up with you when your thrashing round in one

zxrlocost - 16/2/07 at 09:10 AM

Have you been in a BEC?

roadrunner - 16/2/07 at 12:27 PM

I have'nt been in one yet, but Tim Windmill has promised me a go in his Fazer Indy.

zxrlocost - 16/2/07 at 02:24 PM

TIM IGNORE ANY SPEED LIMITS AND SCARE HIM

clutch_kick - 16/2/07 at 03:40 PM

hmmm .... i took a look at those 1/4mile ET's and this is getting me worried .... My GT4 did low 13's ... if i fix up a BEC with an Injected R1 and it won't do any better it's going to be a real de-moraliser. I have a reputation to keep up lol

Taking into consideration that i do thrash the engine quite badly with no regard what-so-ever to the well-being of the clutch or the gearbox lol ..... what sort of ET's are we looking at?

mandbsheldon - 16/2/07 at 03:52 PM

Yep, those figures are right. Even Hellfires ZX12 was only just under 13's

zxrlocost - 16/2/07 at 04:00 PM

cluth Kick forget quarter mile times a 7 stlye car has very poor aerodynamics above 80mph 1/4 times mean nothing in real life driving a 7 stlye BEC will beat most machinery on road and on track

you only have to watch a few vids to see this

also your BEC will out handle anything

so Id forget about the GT4

clutch_kick - 16/2/07 at 04:15 PM

I'd better save up for a turbo-conversion then.

zxrlocost - 16/2/07 at 04:40 PM

why did you not read what I put

are you building the car for quarter mile bragging rights ?

if so id say its the wrong build and you should be doing some yank tank 9.0 litre 11 second quarter mile job

if you want a car that will destroy out handle most things in real life/ TRACK driving then a BEC is that car

clutch_kick - 16/2/07 at 05:06 PM

no no it will be a Fun/Day-Off-work/Hillclimb car ... but ... a decent 13 seconds on the 1/4 mile would be nice

DIY Si - 16/2/07 at 05:16 PM

7 aren't really all that in a straight line above 80 odd mph. They aren't the best option due to having their main strengths in their areas, like cornering and braking.
