blade running out of fuel ???
marcotuinenburg - 4/3/07 at 05:49 PM

Hi,
Today i did a small testrun with my Indy.
There was 5 liters of fuel in the tank but after about 20 minutes the engine was losing power and about 1 minute later it stopped running.
when i tried to start it again i heard the fuelpump running but it didn't stop when on pressure (probably couldn't get on pressure) I Tried to start it again but nothing happend. I did see some fuel in the fuelfilter.
What could it be ?
Any suggestions please ?

Thanks, Marco

I'd guess the fuel can't get to the outlet, either its not at the lowest point of the car or the car wasn't level?

Might be a vacumn in the tank, is there a vent?

Agree, in 20 minutes you're going to have covered maybe 12-15 miles so you might only have a litre or so left in the tank even if driving fairly sedately, and you're very unlikely to be able to pull every last drop of fuel from your tank.

i couldnt believe i used a tankfull just thrashing round the industrial estate ,i cant see it doing more than 15mpg on the road

I got around 9, yes 9 mpg from the Bird under race conditions, a touch less than that at the longer higher speed more full throttle tracks.

You've either run out of fuel, or some debris has got in your pump, do have a filter between tank and pump.

She's running again.
Changed the fuelfilter, the guy at the shop said i had a dieselfilter, i asked him what's the difference, the diesel one let's through bigger partikels, that's nice
I blowed the fuel back in the tank with my mouth and if there was some debris it's back in the tank.
After that everything went well.
She started the first time

Thanks for the help
Marco

Does your breath smell of petrol now, it takes hours to get rid of the taste.
