
Well after a few weekends and half term spent on the car its starting to look like my on-the-road-for-summer ideas might just come good....famous last
words of course...
Got the paint on and gingerly cut the side panel for the oil cooler - which was a 'moment' but it looks pretty straight although the cooler
is very tight to the insides of the side panel and will need a little scoop if its gonna get any useful air flow through it.
Scavenge pump is in place and just needs the hose I ordered off ebay ages ago to arrive and I can finally plumb it in properly.
Bonnet is this weekends job.....

i see you have a dump valve fitted on the other side of the engine there, i put one on my engine the other day, why did you fit it, to prolong the
life of the turbo, less turbo lag, or was it for the noise, do you think it makes a differance ?

I put it in as more a safety valve I suppose - I had read a couple of books saying that there can be pressure spikes of around 50psi in between gear
changes and things and so for the sake of a litle modification to the plenum I thought if it saves some bent throttle spindles its maybe worth it.
Dunno about the noise yet - guess I'll find that out on the way to the SVA station!

A dump valve will do more damage than good on an engine thats only running small boost.
The whole point in a dump valve is to release the excess pressure after you close the throttle other wise it goes back and hits the compresser blade causing "turbo stall" But when you dump the pressure the turbo has to start again to build up the pressure which will give you lag. Your best bet is fitting a recurculating dump valve.
If you a bit unsure go to www.Passionford.com and ask there. might seem an odd site but theres a lot of pro car tuners on there inc Martin hadland of Reyland motor sport big name when it comes to tuning cosworths but the guys on there are happy to help with any engine advice. Especially when its sumat like a turbo'd bike engine.

re: the ignition
I bought an EMS 6 unit to retard the spark but unfortunately it doesnt work with CDI ignition units so I'll run it as stock with the carbs until
I swap over to 'squirting it sometime.
Im not overly concerned about detonation since it runs a 10.5:1 CR and is intercooled and with 98RON at 7psi I think she'll cope.....
Still got your turbo blade btw?

Helping a mate build a z1000 turbo at thee mo. Its the new fuel injected version.
Have you got some det cans? they are really simple to make and will alow you to hear if you have any det.

Wrong, wrong wrong! For a start a dump valve can do no harm unless it is buggered and leaks.
....and how can a recirculating dump valve make any difference. It recirculates into the inlet before the turbo! This is done simply to keep noise down or if your car has an MAF. It recirculated back in after the turbo ther would be no point.
Very cool conversion you have done on this car. Have you got anyy adjustability in the ignition avance?
The insides of bike cv carbs are pretty delicate so would always use one.
Det cans are like a large stethoscope.
Will write you a post on how to make them and what to listen for this eve when i have more time if you want?

I was just doing some final checks on the dyno before we went for a power run.
The car was a friends E30 M3 that we had turbo charged. It was all home built, mapped by me and won the fastest E30 at the PBMW mag day at brunters
that year!
