How low can you go? (making a map for SVA)

Hi.

HELP HELP HELP (please )

How low can you gon on a map for emissions purposes?
I know that if you lean it too much it will overheat and destroy the engine, but how low is too low?

I'm trying to lower my emissions on a 2003 R1
For idle I'm at "-12" (is it too low???)
For fast idle I'm still way out ( at "-12"; can I lower it more?

not an aswer - how hot are you headers getting ?

we have had them very red and melting bodywork.

Hi Ian.

I believe not that hot, as yestardayu I didn't notice it glowing red..
I'm using alu heat protection on the bodywork, and heat protection over the headers.

Is that the way that MNR is taking their cars to SVA, or just an isolated case?
I'm trying to get MNR's SVA map as the one I'm using (Thanks Paul) is not there yet...)

Joao,

HOT a cat needs heat to work. In road cars the cat is under the car and is usually designed for a particular model engine size.

You have the advantage that you cat is in your can but most 7 its an issue to get the cat HOT enough to work.

Some cars we have had to wrap headers ect to retain heat.

when the car is running how hot is you 4 into 1 getting ? You should not be able to get your hand anywhere near it.

not that hot, I suspect...
I have the headers and 4-1 heat waraped

I can stand very near the 4-1... so does that means that I can lower even more the mixture without risking a TOO LEAN condition and destroying the engine?
I'm only battling in the 2500 - 3000 rpm fast idling, as idling is whithin limits.

Next time with the gas analyzer I'll measure the temperature...

you wont destroy the engine on an sva test...

no load, only 3000 rpm...

My headers were glowing red for the test, no problems at all..

Just make sure when you get the HC right, the lambda is within limits and you will be fine...

To wich norm do you need to comply???

Looks like in spain i need to conform the EURO4 norm???

Gues it means LABDA Sensors and CATSss...

Joao,

next time you measure, make sure you get the cat HOT!

If it isn't hot it won't work. Also make sure you have the laptop plugged in to the PCIII and note what the throttle position is to maintain the fast idle.

Does the gas analyzer measure lambda and HC?

Sow your car is retested to the standards in the UK? whats that kind of logic??

i read in the EU rulez that they cant put you on a test wich you already have passed in the country of origen...
