new rad and plumbing
dilley - 25/3/07 at 11:55 AM

I have fitted a new rad, Im changing the plumbing as follows(blackbird)

as per normal, bottom hose from rad to pump, top hose to thermostat, the 8mm feed on the thermostat housing and the 8mm feed on the rad to be fitted with a lorry tyre valve so can be bled easily(2 man job) and then a feed from the header tank into the bottom hose with a 22psi cap on the tank, how does this sound??its a very basic setup. The origional blackbird rad had a pressurised cap,the new rad does not, I believe a lot of the rgb boys are running this setup and was was recomended by Andy at ab performance,

also I need a header tank if anyone has one.

Thanks Andrew.

If I understand your post correctly, are you not connecting the 8mm outlets on the 'stat housing and radiator to the top outlet on an expansion tank then - but blanking them off with tyre valves?
I'm in the process of plumbing my 'blade engine and have connected the top and bottom rad hoses the same as you but will be connecting the above 8mm outlets to my expansion tank. (I followed the coolant diag. Chris Gamlin has posted on here a few times.)
I'm using a Renault Clio expansion tank. Cost a fiver down the local scrappie.

Andy.

thats correct, tyre valves are for bleeding.
