Can anyone recomend a good oil, filter and plugs. My car is ready for sva but could do with a service, as my r1 engine has been stood for a long time.

Either a Yamaha or K&N oil filter (the K&N has a 17mm nut welded on the end which is cross-drilled for lock-wiring).

Oil - I would recommend a decent synthetic. I use Motul 300v (bike specific, NOT the car type). Others are Rock Oil Synthesis, Castrol R4 amongst others.

Plugs - use the standard NGK or Nippon Denso.

as above always use original yam products if you can

dont forget Bike Oil not car oil

I was been looking at plugs , are the Iridium plugs prices £30 any better than the NGK £20.

Nah, I wouldn't bother with Iridium plugs - you won't see a benefit in a standard motor. Stick with the normal NGKs.

It is worth lockwiring the oil filter as they do seem to come loose occasionally on BECs, and also lockwire the sump plug if you can.

If you can't find the K&N filter Coose mentioned, just put a large jubilee clip around a standard filter then attach some lockwire to that, or if you're lucky, fit it in a position where the wormdrive butts up against the engine block so it can't possibly loosen without the jubilee being moved.
