I'm making a new airbox for my R1 engined single seater, to make the most of the great big air intake

I need to be able to drill the base plate for the trumpets etc. - has anybody got the measurements handy to save me trying to measure it all up accurately.

Im not sure on the spacing, but im fairly certain I used a 50mm hole punch to cut the holes on my backplate which was exactly the right size for the rubbers.

I've got a 50mm hole saw which should be fine as the airbox will be done in carbon fibre.

Make sure its an accurate cut though because I dont think there's a huge lip on the rubber.

I used one of those punches you use in a press, one cup inside the other which when pressed together cuts a nice neat hole. Obviously thats no good for carbon but a holesaw might be a little less accurate so best to practice on something else first and make sure the rubbers fit!

I didn't realise it was just the rubbers that locate the airbox! Mine may have too much of an overhang towards the front (exhaust manifold end) to be stable, so I was going to make a couple of little angle brackets fixed in place by the diaphragm cover screws.

I'll wait until I get the box back so that I can try it.

I was out in the garage just now and seeing the airbox sitting in the corner reminded me of this thread, so I thought Id measure it up even if its a bit late now.

The holes are 50mm diameter (actually about 49.5mm on the inside face but taper out to about 51mm on the outside face).

The inner pair of holes are 75mm centre to centre, and ports 1 and 4 sit 83mm out from the centre of their adjascent inner, i.e.

O <83mm> O <75mm> O <83mm> O

all measurements centre to centre (or edge to edge!)

Not too late as I haven't picked the airbox up yet - he's also got my tie rods (making new ones as I don't know the age and hsitory of the others) and I'm supposed to be testing on Wednesday so I'd better pull my finger out!
