Max Power Engine Speed for SVA
Avoneer - 23/6/07 at 12:10 AM

What's the norm for the SVA form as IIRC this is what they base the noise level on, all be it a percentage.

I've put 8k ???

IIRC it was 40% of max power? i.e. 2500 rpm for a pinto?

[edit:] didnt get the BEC thing.. anyway i think it was 40% of max power, supposing its a fireblade, max hp would come in at what, 10-12k rpm?

Sorry - didn't word it very well.

The SVA1 asks what RPM maximum power will be at.

I pressume this question is so that they can work out what RPM to do the noise test at.

So I wrote 8000 RPM.

Engine is a 919 'blade.

Pat
I would have thought 9 or 10 but these guys aren't that soft they know better than us what a bike engines revs to

Doesn't the 919 blade make max power at 10,500?

You should put the exact rpm as Honda states it.
If you try and blag the tester he will walk all over you.

"You should put the exact rpm as Honda states it.

Not entirely true, I put 10,000 down for my engines, IIRC Kawasaki state it at 11,000, I think you'll be lucky if you can persuade them that 8,000 is really peak power for a bike lump but any lowering of the max power revs brings a lower noise test revs which obviously makes life easier.
At Chelmsford where mine was tested they had no way of checking rpm - I had no rev counters on the car so he said "hold it at about 5,000 rpm" - I obviously took it to about 4,000 & it thus sailed thro' the noise test! (would probably have passed anyway). So if they are still relying on the customers rev counter would be a shame if it read a bit low

Of course if you've got a Racetech tachometer what you put on the form is irrelevant in as much as these dials have a rotary variable resistor on the back of the tacho allowing you infinite control over the displayed rpm.... It's a pain when you want an accurate reading for the sake of engine non-blowing-up though!!

I think I unfortunately had mine about 30% over-reading for the SVA.... So when asked to rev it to 4k I got it to a displayed 4k... Shame it was actually only 3k though.... Whisper quite on the noise test though!! Hehehe....

Rev limit it,
I think my megajolt is set to 6000 but feel it may be a bit lower soon.

Ok, I've put 10k on the form and posted it.

Might play with my digidash come SVA (cough cough) though.

That's alright as long as the tester doesn't run it up to 10,000 after you've fiddled the rev counter
