MotaLeira...another bit done
nitram38 - 24/7/07 at 12:33 PM

I am still waiting for my rolled tube siderails, so in the meantime I am sorting other parts.
This is the rear cross brace to strengthen the suspension mounts.
It is removeable to get the diff out easily.

PLEASE don't take this as critisism, I think what you're doing is great, but you've got quite a hefty bit of bracing there, but it looks like it's held on with pretty small bolts, is that going to achieve much ??

A good 12.9 bolt will do that with more than enough spare. Most don't seem to realise how massive most bolt son a 7 are! IIRC something like a 8mm 8.8 grade bolt would do for the main suspension points! I could be wrong on that, but as I say IF I've remembered right....

The tubing is remarkably thin wall, have you calculated this to be sufficient given the layout of the space frame? If so my chassis has may be way overengineered!

It looks like 16 swg to me, which is what all 7s are made of......

It's a big wide open space that needs bracing.
The tube is 25mm 16 gauge and the bolts are 6mm stainless.
It would take several tons in side shear to sever the bolts and that would only happen in an accident.
I have found in the past that over engineering is a problem in our cars. You have to start looking at the combination of triangulation rather than focusing in on individual parts.
Catering vans use a lot smaller tubes than what I have used for my chassis.
I am happy with my design.

nice fabrication, its not easy making those Xs
