I have lost 3rd gear it just jumps in and out depent on power
short of a stripp down what can i do? is there a dog engangement adjustment?

I don't know about the ZX9 but there is none on my R1. My R1 stripdown was quite easy actually. The output shaft could be removed without taking the clutch off. The hardest part was lifting the engine out of the car. It might just be best to fix it.

Sounds very much like the 3rd-4th Gear Selector... strip down and replace (DIY 50 quid). You will need Sump and Clutch Cover gasket.
