Anyone building a GTR
Lightning - 10/8/07 at 10:36 PM

Well I have had the TVR a year now and I'm getting itchy fingures again to build another car. I would like to build a mid engined BEC such as a GTR. Anyone building one at the mo?

What, on a forum called LOcost.

It'd kinda defeat the name somewhat

Nah, I think even that van be done in a locost maner to be honnest, OK it would be allot more expensive than you're average Locost, but it could be done at half the cost that Ultima asks for it.... a well powered ultima build for 12 to 15K pounds would still be a locost in my opninion

depends on terminology of Locost.

(building an engine for a T70 myself)

I finished building my GT-R a year ago and if you are prepared to source and manufacture most of the parts your self you could probably get one on the road for between £8-£9000. Apart from the chassis and bodywork your biggest single expence will be the engine and paint job.
The build is fairly straightforward and should be about 9 months to complete (a bit less if you dont put it through SVA).

Love the car wheezy. Are they superleggeras? Also how is the final drive accompliushed? I couldn't see from your archive. Oh, also what is the final weight. My Tiger was about 475Kg.

Final drive is/used to be a sierra diff, with a very short prop, sometimes just 2 UJ's!

Yes the final drive is through a sierra diff. The prop shaft is about 300 mm long with a sliding tube and 2 uj's.
The car weighs in at just over 500kg. It will always weigh more than most 7's due to the extra grp in the bodywork.

I could've sworn I'd seen one with just 2 UJ's as a prop! Could be wrong though, it's been known to happen......
