cec to bec theory question
macspeedy - 30/8/07 at 07:40 PM

I have at the moment a pinto engined mk indy i am looking to change to bike power what costs aside from the engine would be incurred, i have so far, prop, rev counter or all in one, fuel pump, different springs, prop adapter, any more ideas and approx costs?

Also what would a pinto engine running on 45's producing 160+ bhp be worth?

Thanks in advance Mac

Bonnet, exhaust manifold, engine loom, gear shift mechanism or paddle shift........

Edit to say...
Might end up wanting to change your diff ratio too

I did my conversion for about £900, all in, got the engine for £400, prop and alterations £90, bonnet £130, manifold £270, speedo £40, Jacko's welding services PRICELESS.

I reckon as a general rule you can add about a grand on top of the cost of the BEC engine you chose to cover everything else you need for a complete install, assuming it doesnt need dry sumping. From that figure take off the price of any Pinto based bits you can sell.

Bear in mind with a Pinto though you have a drivers side exhaust exit, so unless your manifold currently comes out through the bonnet, you'll need to budget to re-skin the side panel to get rid of the existing hole, or at very least patch it up and accept how it looks.

There's a similar discussion going on here too, albeit outright cost rather than conversion cost.

If you go V4 you can have pipes down both sides

No re-skinning....

though now you need twice as many collectors, headers and silencer cans!!!

Why would you need 8 headers?
