I was just looking on Jay Lenos garage website and saw his LCC Rocket designed by Gordon Murray.
It has a Yamaha engine set transversely in the engine bay. The thing that got my attention is that the car can use the 6 gears to go backwards giving a 150mph top speed backwards!!!!!

So how is this achieved and could it be someting for the LCB collective to take advantage of?

It's normal behaviour for a separate reversing box in 7's. In a middy BEC they will be using a transaxle with reversing box and diff in the same casing.

Nope, just a reverse box in the prop or diff that reverses the drive in relation to the engine, the engine keeps going the same way.

Caterham currently hold the world(?) reversing speed record with a Caterham Fireblade for the same reason, at just over 100mph IIRC.

It would be very tricky if not impossible to actually drive a car at 150mph in reverse because of the steering geometry and "rear" steering would make it extremely unstable and liable to want to spin back facing forwards all the time.
