Water Temp or Oil Temp Gauge
TimC - 19/7/06 at 03:40 PM

Greetings.

Have purchased my 5JJ R1 and am busy planning the build (waiting to move to really start.)

My engine has come with a oil temp sender already in place. My question is, do I need a water temp gauge as well as/instead of an oil temp gauge?

Comments as to why also useful and appreciated.

Water temp is the one you want most, but since you already have the oil gauge, get both.

Id go for both or at least the water temp gauge.

I have both and they are invaluable.

People often assume their car is warm, when the water temp gauge is - but I've noticed a big difference between water temp and oil temp!!!

Similarly the oil temp can be hotter and the water backing off again - so I'd def have both, then you have more information on what's going on.

I'm usually too busy to look at the gauges while driving! I only use them when there's a risk of problems (sitting in traffic) or a warning light has come on.

I'd certainly fit the water temp gauge, with the oil temp as a less-important bonus.
