Advise for bying a fireblade engine.
Im going to buy a 900 cc fireblade engine next week at a local motor scrapyard. The guy there told me he has a few engines (the carburator type) at
his scrapyard.
Could you guys give me some advise what to look for. This way im better prepared when im there.

ask if you can have maybe 3 - 6 months grace too try the engine as your prob not gonna run it before then by which time he could say youve had it 3
months mate sorry no can help.....
other than that, obvious damage not much else you can look for....

As already stated... knocks and dings avoid if possible. Low mileage and preferably a clean engine as the crud the water cooler branch gets makes it
very weak... apart from that very good engine.

Make sure you get the wiring loom, regulator, fuel pump, clocks and CDI off the same bike.
Minor scrapes to engine side casings are fine, any broken mountings is not.

Make sure the engine no. is intact and hasn't been tampered with! (needed, apart from anything else, to prove year of manufacture for emissions
at SVA.)

Also ask if you can drain the oil and drop the sump to check for metal fragments in the sump, if the gearbox has been knocking its dogs or if other
things mechanical are going awry inside, the sump will give the best indicator within the bounds of what you can do before buying the engine.
