Flat spot between 7 and 8k rpm
Can anyone offer any suggestions. I'm running a Kawasaki ZZR1100 C engine, with de-restricted carbs, standard, fuel pump, standard coils and
CDi, Pipercross Dome Filter and 4-2-1 exhaust with one of 907 / Paul's cans.
I took the Indy for it's first real drive yesterday. It goes brilliantly from tick over all the way to 7200 rpm, then it coughs, splutters and
nearly dies. If I change down a gear and get the revs up to 8000 rpm we are back on full power all the way to 11500 rpm.
Am I right in thinking that this is about the zone when the primary jets run out and the mains kick in? If so is there a simple adjustment I can make
myself to the carbs.
I know I need to get it set up on the rolling road to maximise performance, but I'm hoping there is something I can do myself so I can get back
out there this weekend!
Holeshot seem to be good value for money on the fitting of a Dyno jet kit and setting up the carbs. Anyone have any other recommendations, perhaps
closer to Newcastle?
Cheers Mike

mhhh
wach out with that problem!!
You can burn an hole in your piston if your mixture is to lean!
The sparkplug wil get to hot and will make the hole!
compare the bike situation with the new one.. RAM air?Carbs angle?Fuel starvation?

You need to raise the needles to the top position as a minimum or change to a dynojet carb kit...
You have hit the lean spot where they do bike emissions checks...

it could be anything, main jet's dropped off ,a hole in one of the carb diaphragm's,but it does sound like a plug is going down under load

maybe your
Carbs needles stick open...
and when reaching the bigger needle it just gets to much,
when shifting down you rais mechanically the rpm and more air is sucked in in that way maybe you get rid of all that fuel...
i wouldn't use the car, just clean the carbs... has it been staying for an long time??
how did it run on the bike (if you can compare?)
Tks

As I said earlier... its the mid range thats the problem and thats needle jets all the way...
MNR had the same problem with their R1 powered car...
Raise the meedles to their highest position or fit a dynojet kit...
You have removed the high back pressure system and let the engine breathe, it needs richening up...
I have worked on enough british superbikes and powerbikes to know this is the case...

Thanks for the advice guys.
I have taken the carb tops off tonight and checked there are no tears or holes in the diaphragms.
I don't think / hope its not a weak spark as I have all new plugs (correctly gapped) and new CDi, coils and leads fitted.
I have looked at my Haynes Manual on the carbs and it's all looking a bit complex for me. I might see if I can buy a spare set off ebay to play
around with.
Looks like a trip to a specialist.
