What battery for R1
Trying to sort a battery for R1 and unsure what to get.
Obvious first choice was an R1 but at £60 odd quid i thought it was a bit expensive.
Looked in Haynes and it says battery is 12v 10ah so what other battery could i get ?

I have found a few batteries but does anyone know if it has to be 12v 10ah or could it be 11ah or maybe 9ah ?

I just went to the bike shop and asked to see the catalogue - picked one that was the right size for my fitment (not too tall on the scuttle) and
exceeded the OE fit amperage (extra lighting/ancillaries). I think I ended up with a Goldwing battery IIRC. 30 quid. I'm not sure a drycell is
up to the cranking amps, the cycling and long periods of inactivity - but would be happy to be corrected on this. BTW - I made up a shallow
Polypropylene tray to sit the battery in (a small drop of acid will create havoc on an ally scuttle), and used 25mm woven webbing to clamp the battery
down

I searched on t'internet and got a sealed R1 battery (can't remember the designation off hand) for £30 delivered. Seek and you shall
find....

Go to mdsbattery.co.uk and pick up a Yausa or Varta equivalent of the R1 battery for arround £35 delivered. YTX-12 or something similar I seem to
recall. These are good quality batteries.

Maplin's have a deal on a booster battery pack. Take it apart and there should be a 17 Ah gel battery inside!

not sue if correct spec but going by that code which is same as VARTA's it should be 12v 12ah

I haven't used that as I have a gel battery already (got mates working in an RAF establishment....). A friend has done this though and the
battery was a pukka gel battery, although branded in Chinese.
I have one of those boost / starter things and, if I can, I may just take the top off for a look.

Sprint batteries arent bad, but if youre wanting piece of mind, definately go for a Yuasa or Varta, Ive never known one misbehave when cared for
properly.
A mate put a new Yuasa on his ZXR last year after the Sprint was unrecoverable. The bike has sat in my garage, often in sub zero conditions and
without fail it cranks and starts the bike when its been stood for months at a time.
