1993 blade BEC, more power needed

i have carbed standard 1993 blade with bigger 128 mains jets (no dynojet) with westfield filter sock, i notice that the injected versions you can more power with power commanders or advancing ignition, but can anyone tell is there anything I can do to get more power from my ignition, ecu or fuel system without spending loads on internal mods, exhaust can etc

carbed engines are

dynojet kit
air filter
exhaust system

thats mainly it without internal mods

if you search some of the american forums the may be some good tips on tuning

ie I look on the r1 bike forum

There's probably not a huge amount you can do on a sensible budget TBH, apart from the usual filters, ignition advancers etc.

Once you start looking at cams and head porting it starts getting quite expensive especially if you consider the cost of rolling road setup time etc. I looked at it when I had my blade and to get similar power to an R1 say, it seemed it was a similar investment into tuning parts as ditching the blade and dropping in an R1 to start with. The R1 conversion is obviously more time consuming but once complete it leaves you with 150+bhp from a stock £1k engine rather than 150bhp sitting in a £2k+ tuned blade engine, so if the blade goes bang you lose a lot more investment than if the R1 goes pop.

thanks, looks like I will have to wait for it to go bang then, I believe there is no way of advancing ignition or is there? just out of interest what differance would dynojets make? at present on my megabalde I have a westfield sock filter & fitted bigger 128 mains, normally 115 & blocked off the central air correctors

Youve basically got most of a dynojet kit in there already then, its basically only enlarged jets plus adjustable needles, but you're looking at a couple of horsepower gain at most Id think (if anything), and maybe slightly smoother power delivery so probably not worth it.

There are ignition advance kits that some of the bike racers use, not sure how they work but Andy Bates (AB Performance) or someone similar should be able to advise, they arent too expensive though and Ive heard mentions of 5-10bhp gains so might be worth looking into.

Fredrik, one Ive found a fair bit of info for R1's on R1-forum.com

cheers

Chris
