BEC noise

hi

I have a micron race can with no kind of baffles in and it is very noisey..

if I wear my helmet its even noisier

with no helmet you can barely hear the exhaust

my bloody ears feel like your about to land in a plane
but I like wearing my lid

any ideas on some nice sounding cans without power restrictions

the original can fits but I dont like the looks

ta chris

Ear plugs are cheaper than a new can

HI Chris,

See if you can find an aftermarket road can.

Loads about from the likes of Micron, etc but will be a lot quieter with some baffles. Theyre about as good a compromise as youll get. So look for one which doesnt say not for road use. From past experience Leo Vinci (bit more money) are a lovely sounding can and not too loud, where as Blue Flame and ART can be pretty loud, even with their road cans.

I agree about the noise, I have an ART can on mine and its mental - Im in the process of having the original (from a 4XV) carbon can sorted to fit although I appreciate there will be a performance penalty.

Let us know how it goes

Rich

I had a micron race can on my blade and it measured 112bDA at Elvington! So I had to shut it up to get on any tracks.

In the end I went to ebay and got a gsxr1000 standard can for £7.50. Yes it's more restricted and I had to get the carbs rejetted to suit, but it still got 116bhp at the wheels which is not bad for an 893 blade. I can feel a slight loss in power, but it's still bl00dy quick. And I can get on track now!

Longer term I'll probably go the only "real" way to get quiet without losing any power, and that's to get a very large straight-through silencer custom-made. It'll make your car look like a 1-sided raft, but at least you'll be able to spank it on circuit

Our Yoshimura TRS Can although sounding marvellous is a bit too loud for anything less than a 105Db+ track. So, we decided to have an adaptor made for the original ZX12R Exhaust Can which quotes 89Db (with CAT) but actually is 98Db without the CAT which it was designed for. As this isn't a problem for most tracks I think we'll leave it at that...
