rr3 954cc blade engine
does anyone know if this engine will need baffling/dry sumping? ie is it the same as the older type units? also is £1200 a good price for one with 5k
on it? cheers!

Not so quick there chaps. I was speaking to Andy Bates at AB perfromance and he said that sidecar racers who used the 954 engine found that it was
more surge prone than the earlier fireblade engines.
Not sure what the remedy was but he may be worth a call. Its certainly not proven in a BEC application (yet)

Ive got a rr2 954 engine in my Indy! As hellfire says no need for dry sumping! Regarding not proven well I have done about 1800 miles so far and I
don't hang about, although I have not tracked it yet where the G's would give it more of a test regd surge. However it seems good so far.
Regarding price mine had 6000 miles when i bought it in 2003 for £1400 and i thought that was a good price so £1200 is still great value. Go for it,
they have plenty of power and a little more torque compared to the old blade!!

so how does the 954 compare to drive?

I'd rather take advice from someone who knows blade engines inside out than some anecdotal evidence
I'm not saying the engine is bad - far from it. I just recall that Andy had some genuine concerns about it in racing applications.
If you are just going to use it on the road i'm pretty sure it will be fine. Its more a case of what happens when its going round a track with
sticky tyres on.
Cheers

Isn't the engine East /West on a sidecar outfit?
It's North /south in an Indy.

Yes I have the hiss system and a power commander. No I haven't been in a older blade engined indy, however the lads at mk took my car for a
test drive and said it was as quick or quicker than their gsxr 1000 demonstrator so there you go not a slouch by any means

whats needed to convert my pinto to this engine then? ie, what MUST i make sure i get with the engine kit? it has the key, hiss, ecu, loom, inj system
all anciallaries, and he wants an extra £100 for the clocks. Is there anything else i must make sure i get with the kit to get it all working?
