what is it off??

what is the turbo unit that people are using on bike engines and if the bike is carbed do they use a boost pressure fed rising rate regulator? what about lowering the c/r and timing etc, just interested if there is a simple set up for a carbed cbr1000f motor

Holeshot use a modified mistsibushi turbo
clicky
no idea bout the resy sorry, looked in the past as I plan to turbo mine when it's finished and sva'd.

You couldn't pwn your way out of a wet paper bag, with "PWN ME!!" written on it, from the "pwned take-away" which originally contained one portion of chicken tikka pwnsala and the obligatory free pwnpadom.

Jambojeef is using a turbo off a Rover 820 on a CBR1000. Perhaps a U2U might be useful?

just trying this on mine at the moment. Ive used a modded T2 off a renault 5 gt turbo. same exhaust housing just a larger compressor and 360 degrees bearings.

i friend said to me at 11000 rpm the idea size engine from a R5gt turbo is 800cc, so not far off. Considering these little turbos run about 15 psi all day (renault are set a 9 psi factory) i think a small boost with manage a 1000cc engine.

But i would also like to know if i need to space the head to lower the CR. is adding a 2nd head gasket ok?

ive opted to not use the water feed on the turbo and let the oil do the work with a bigger oil cooler. Makes things easier for a start. Just attempting to start the manifold on the spare engine.

looking at holeshots site there isnt any mention of head gaskets in their r1 kit, i think the cbr runs at around 10:1 so should cope with 5psi with an intercooler . im more intersted in the fueling side as i have a wideband reader so could in theory see whats going on but wether the carbs can cope with boost presssure is another thing

Garage19 is your man, have a look in his photo archive. He recommends the IHI RB52 off a fiat uno turbo. This is backed up by Joe Haile in
' Motorcycle Turbocharging, Supercharging and NOS'. A good read BTW if you fancy knocking up a homebrew turbo system.
Malpassi do a rising rate fuel regulator, fitted to Lotus esprits and i think Rover MG turbos, although you can buy them brand new. I reckon at 10:1 and 5psi boost you wouldn't need to lower the c/r if using an intercooler. Most bike carbs will take boost, you just need to pressurise the float bowls with a line from the plenum.

thats great news then, so the engine wont need taking apart.

i was going to use the fuel pump and rising rate fuel reg off the renault 5 turbo as i have them too hand.

Im in the process of building the plenum up too, but i have a few questions regarding the carbs. i dont know which 'vent' goes to which pipe on the plenum. i see that one set goes stright off the plenum, and the other set is from a pipe with a hole in it (pitot pipe?) that sits in the air flow inside the plenum. Can anyone help?

wadders, just ordered the book off amazon, still not clear on where you feed pressure to the float bowls on a set of cv carbs?

hope that works!

Inbetween carbs 1 and 2 and the same between 3 and 4 there are 2 connections (vents) on above the other, one is 10mm the other is 8 but i dont know which is float bowl and which is diaphram.

IIRC the Kehins on mine, have breather pipes linking each pair of carbs, above where the fuel inlet pipes are, maybe you could use those?

cheers for that, i should get on with other projects but it does appear that with carbs its a fairly straight forward conversion if you can fab the manifold and plenum yourself
