SOUTH WALES mechanic needed or someone worth travelling for
I'm based in Cardiff with an R1 powered MNR.
Is there anyone nearby who knows about BEC's and could check over the engine and ideally set up the suspension too?
If not, anyone know someone worth travelling to?
When I had a Westfield, Terry Nightingale was the man to see but he's far away!
Cheers
Ed

As it happens, there were a few of us around that area that were going to see about a suspension setup day last year, but it went cold. Would still be
interested though...

No idea about the mechanc mate, though i live in cardiff and am thinking about building an r1 powered mnr! Small world eh?
Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purely coincidental. Some assembly required. Batteries not included. Contents may settle during
shipment. Use only as directed. No other warranty expressed or implied. Do not use while operating a motor vehicle or heavy equipment. Subject to
approval, terms and conditions apply. Apply only to affected area. For recreational use only. All models over 18 years of age. No user-serviceable
parts inside. Subject to change. As seen on TV. One size fits all. May contain nuts. Slippery when wet. For office use only. Edited for television.
Keep cool; process promptly.

There's Andy at Avia in Bridgend
He's a very good mechanic and an old friend of mine. He'll also do suspension setup. He knows Llandow pretty well (used to be circuit
manager there!) and is a racer and biker. Be warned, he can talk a glass eye to sleep though!!
Mine has just been to Melvyn Evans Motorsport for setup as it was up at
MVS anyway. Lampeter is a bit of a trek from Cardiff though. There's also Alan Bryer (Bryer's Mazda
dealership at Dryslwyn near Carmarthen) - Alan runs Eynon Price in a 230BHP Busa OMS in the British Hillclimb championship - I spoke to him tonight -
they had they're first test session in it today - sounds like it's bloody quick!

Wyn

I was going to suggest that you speak to Wyn...
I'm personally planning on taking mine up to Procomp in Birmingham for suspension set-up but that's because Matt's been very helpful
in the past and he undoubtably knows how to set a seven-type up. In terms of the motor, I'm expecting at to travel to TTS or PDQ at the moment
but I'm more than happy to keep the cash in Wales if I can get the same result.

Cheers all, just what I needed, Andy at Avia seems the obvious first choice and seemed nice enough on the phone.
At this rate I'll be running out of excuses for why I'm driving slower than anyone else!

Have now spoken at length with Andy, see what you mean about chatty!
My only worry is he is going to set it up to win a formula one race and charge accordingly! I'm not sure if he is the man to just improve things
a bit!
He recommended taking the engine out and sending it to an expert as rolling roads simply aren't good enough. Again, a bit more than I had
intended.
Am going to drive it over for him to have a poke and see.
(When I asked how much it would be to set up he asked 'how fast can you afford to go'!). Would love to be able to afford him, but is there
anyone else as fallback.

I'm with you on this one - the guy needs to give you a realistic idea or better still the maximum that it could forseeably cost you.
TTS in Silverstone are excellent... did wonders with my old CBR1000 lump.

Uncertain, finally got the car back on the road and it is still making awful nuts and bolts noises, I think the quaife reverse box is responsible.
Currently trying to disconnect the drive shaft to check but the flanges seem siezed together.

Andy's very practical - tell him you haven't got a pot of cash and he'll be honest with you!
He's doing MOT's now as well and, even though he wouldn't budge from the testing process, he has a very good understanding of
specialist cars! He built my Locost (750MC spec) and rebuilt the chassis when I went Zetec and moved the engine and gearbox back 7" !

Quaife boxes are notorious for noises. Usually caused by by the oil being spat out of the breather down the tunnel and not into a catch tank. The box
runs dry and blows up / rattles until it blows.
Have you got a sliding section on the front prop ? If not then you'll need to unbolt from the both the box and the adaptor sides. A gentle tap
with a mallet should free it.
As you know you'll have to eliminate the transmission from the motor before worrying too much.
The guy who was going to set mine up was Stuart Hayman (until I got side tracked) but you've got to tell him exactly what you want. Loads of
experience in grass track and BTCC (his son works for the Lexus team).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.
