R1 Engined Westfield (Opinions?)
Hi,
am kinda new to the forum, been hanging around in the wings for a while.
Have spotted this for sale, and wondered if anyone could shed some light onto the integrity of the car, from a pic?
Just wondered if everythings looks "OK" to the guys on here, as my experience isn't enough to tell me anything!
Thanks in advance,
Simon.

lol very true, although ignoring the aesthetic flaws, does anything stand out as wrong?
someone suggested the filter being that high might mean the engine is mounted rather high?
hope that makes sense!
regards,
simon

I think this ones been up for sale before, With perhaps a new bonnet and some effort to get the bonnet level down to normal proportions it would
certainly look OK.

Westfield?
There are one or two things in the picture that make me wonder if that is a pukka Westfield.
The roll bar has rear struts that are in the position usually on Caterhams. Westfield struts go down at the ends of the roll bar because there is no
high level rear rail.
The windscreen frame has poppers all along the top, where Westfields normally have one at each end.
The bonnet is obviusly non standard, but what is it covering, a truck engine?

Thanks again for the replies, I'm not too fussed how ugly it is, and my skills don't entirely stretch to changing the height of the engine
but then again over time anythings possible!
edit - it's an R1 engine, the bit under there is the air filter sticking up, which shows I suppose the engine is mounted rather high, is that a
major problem?
apologies for the noobishness!
cheers

Looks to me like its a "pre-lit" Westie judging by the sloping sides along the cockpit and aforementioned different rollbar.
As its nearly 20 years old and considering the aesthetics, IMHO its expensive at £5k (even more so at £5700 as adverised in the BEC section of the
same website!) especially when you compare it to the 2001 Megablade with £1200 worth of trailer also on Pistonheads for only £2500 more!
I'd also be concerned about the install quality because anyone that mounts an engine that high needs slapping because it doesn't need to
be anywhere near that high.
To sum up, if it didn't have a bike engine in, it would struggle to sell for £4k so I wouldnt pay much more than that TBH.

thanks for the advice, the excitement kinda took over, but don't think I'll be going for it.
Really had my heart set on a BEC mini anyway!
Thanks again

Spent absolutely ages looking for this but I knew the WSCC people had discussed this car before.
Many (including me) thought it was a good buy - expect up close there will be a few issues hence it hasn't sold in months.
