2003 R1 (5PW ) fuel pump constantly running
Over at MNR with the sparky.
all 3 of us are scratching our heads and getting nowhere.
Depending on the roatation of the tilt switch we get
option 1 ( tilt switch the right way up ) the pump will prime stop ( as you would expect ) but will not switch back on while cranking/running so the
engine wont run .
Option 2 ( tilt switch rotated the wrong way - we would expect nothing to work ) pump will run constantly and the engine will run.
so we can run the engine ok but we want to know what is going on because it does not make sense.
any pointers as to where we are going wrong greatly received.

Where does the fuel pump get it's +12v from? Is it getting it from the car loom or from the bike loom?
When the tip over is the right way up do you get a spark at the plugs?
Can you confirm what's been bridged to get the engine to run?

REPLY From the ECU ( bike loom spliced to the car to get to the fuel tank )

Can you confirm what's been bridged to get the engine to run?
REPlY ( from memory ) side stand, Neutral switch, ( and tried just about everything else )
tried replacing ( cam sensor, Crank sensor ) and virtually every other sensor )

I've just plugged my lean angle switch back in to have a play.
If the switch is in the right position then everything runs as it should, if it's in the wrong position then the fuel pump primes but the car
won't start.
I'd remove the Lean Angle switch from the equation, 470 ohm resistor between G/Y and the Bl/Bla, ignore the +5v wire
See what you get then

With the switch the "wrong" way (when it runs) does it still prime / stop if you just put the ignition on, or does it pump all the time
even without the engine running?
When it primes then stops, do you actually get pressure in the fuel line, ie put an inline gauge in or just pull the hose off (carefully!) and see if
there's pressure there or not.
If not then Id suspect the pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail is up the creek, either that or isn't there a pressure sensor on the
fuel rail somewhere, without looking at mine I can't remember but ISTR something being on there?

BTW, I assume you've got the fuel pressure line and the return line the correct way around?

What fuel pump are you using?
Like Chockmonster suggests I would replace the lean sensor with a resistor.
IIRC the fuel pump is powered via the bike fuel pump relay and will probably have an anti spike diode in it so have you checked its the right way
round.

From memory the output for the fuel pump should be from the starter control unit, not the ECU
The feed from the SCU splits to the pump, fuel rail and the ecu.
I replaced the lean angle sensor because it was cutting out on roundabouts.
