Reliability of overbored Blade
Anyone any experience with bored out Blade
engines ? Been offered an ex race bike with a Holeshot
over bore and am wondering about the reliability when used in BEC application.

Any race tuned motor is going to be more highky strung than a standard motor, I think Clavinx has some first hand experience and unfortunately his
went pop (kwaka unit iirc).
Maybe worth a call to holeshot if they did the work and ask them if there are any differences in maintenance or frequency between
refreshes/rebuilds?

Which year / model blade engine is it? I'd guess the main concerns would be from the extra power affecting the gearbox / clutch, rather than the
actual mods that have been done to the engine. Having had carbed (pre 99) blade engines over a ~3 year period with my BEC, I personally think the
clutch and gearbox on that engine is not far away from its limit in standard trim when in a BEC, so putting another 30bhp through it is likely to to
accelerate its appetite for clutches and gearbox internals. Having said that, a few people have turbo'd blades in their BECs so they may be able
to comment a bit better on how it handles the additional power, but whether many people have run the engines like that long term is another matter.

Another point to consider is the power delivery. I had a race tuned motor in my GSXR and the power was right up the rev range with very little
below.
What work has been carried out ? Is it just a re-bore or an actual overbore for more capacity ? Not sure how much extra capacity would be avaiable on
a standard block ??
Personally I'd avoid it and find a carb'd R1 which would give similar power (obviously depending on what work was done on the motor and
it's age/capacity).

Id concur with that, a tuned carb blade (if thats what it is) will still not have significantly more power than a stock R1 engine, which has stronger
internals (clutch etc) and is simple / cheap to replace if it does go pop. If you have a tuned blade and it goes pop you either need to be lucky and
find another second hand tuned engine for sale, or you spend £2k on tuning a stock engine to get it back to the same performance.

Hi, my 893 motor has been bored out to 945 with Wiseco big bore kit and head has been worked / gas flowed.
I have had no problems with reliability in last 2yrs except having a piece of an exhaust valve break off and when I stripped motor that is when I
realised it is prob an ex race motor. Valve piece went straight out of exhaust with no damage to bore or piston. Believe this was due to having valve
clearance too tight.

I'm 6 years and over 10k miles into a tuned 893 blade motor, tuned to 132 @ wheels. Head work & cams.
Plan is ZX12 when the inevitable happens, just don't seem to want to happen.
