I would have suggested an XE aswell but finding a good donor example is getting rarer, start stripping them down and it can get expensive. I'd
also rather have a newer ally block engine as although the xe makes good power it isn't the lightest around (but about comparable to a zetec I
suppose)
yes I have an xe myself but from what I've learnt I'd do things differently if doing it again. Actually quite like the little ally 1.6
zetec se myself.

Sorry ned. Forgot you also would know the low down on the vx's also.
Agree it's heavy but wouldnt be so bad in this situation as already quite a heavy car to start with.

a honda s2000 engine would interest me..but....
where do i get ancilleries e.g. exhaust, alternator, bell housing adaptor, engine mounts from, has anyone done this.
How big is it physically compared to a zetec, the zetec just fits in my cat with no room above. My worry is if i spent that much on an engine
i'd have to use the standard induction/ecu.
Does any work have to be done on the sump?
I guess this thread is now no longer a BEC thread, but i value your inputs all of you.

S2000 comes with a gearbox! And the sump is sorted already if you get an S2000 rather than a Civic lump. Do a search, someone (sorry i forget who) had
one in an MK. I think it was rather rapid!

i spoke to the chap at clockwisemotion.co.uk, who is an s2000 guy and said i would be hard pushed to get an s2000 lump in my car for 3k. I guess he
would know.
Thing with the s2000 gearbox is the size, the type 9 just about fits in the tunnel of the cat.

Chris Mason put one in an MK Indy, but IIRC he said the all-out cost was significantly higher than £3k, doubling it and adding a bit more will get you
closer to the actual figure I suspect.

i emailed chris mason before i went ahead with the bec, and it was more like 9k to do the conversion! you need a stand alone ecu foe a start, engines
are around the 3k price alone, and fitting it was a nightmare iirc, needed a dry sump too! Go busa!

I still don't think a Cat is suited to be a BEC due to it's overall weight and design - it's a heavy lump as standard.
I'd say go tuned Zetec or Duratec route.
