2003 R1: Starter cranks, but I don't want to!
Hi all
I have a problem
I kept the engine in neutral.
I don't have a pump connected - just to check the starter motor.
I've connected the battery to wiring loom [+ and - ].
In the red connector I bridged Black and Blue/Yellow [clutch]
In the main switch connector I bridged Red and Brown [Main Switch]
In one of the front connectors [Blue] I bridged Red/Black and Red/White [Kill switch]
AND THE STARTER MOTOR JUST STARTED TO CRANK!!!!
I didn't even ground the Blue/White in the A Sub Harness, which would be the start switch.
I've checked and it has no continuity to ground.
IIRC this happend to someone not long ago, but I was not able to find the message.
Any tip?
Joao

Looking at the wiring diagram the clutch switch short out should be black/yellow against the blue/yellow (both out of the relay assembly).
I think it may your splicing the black in that is giving the ground to the relay assembly and causing the starter to spin.
Sorry I cant remember what I did with the red plug as it has long since been removed.

Hi Jim.
Yeap, normally it's B/Y bridged with Bl/Y, mas as others have reported could be black.
It doens't matter if it is bridged or not, as it's the clutch, and that input is only used if not in neutral - tried that.
Thanks,
Joao

as posted on 06/4/25 by MartinDB "Yep, it's the Blue/back from the ignition switch to red plug, then black on the loom side of the plug.
