GSX-R 1000 Gearing: Advice needed.

Hi,
A mate has built a locost with a GSX-R 1000 K2 engine, and he's not happy with the gearing. This guy has built 3 BECs before and was driving locost blades long before I knew what they were!
Anyhow, the basic problem is that 1st is too tall and 6th is too low. It's a pain to drive (MUCH more so than a blade) - so much so he's thinking of sticking a boat anchor in it!!
Is anyone else running a GSX-R 1000, and if so what diff, size of wheels are you using and what are your experiences?
I believe he is using a 3.62 LSD and 17" lowish profile tyres. He's not overly happy with the performance of this set up either - big wheels leave him too high of the ground and too heavy.
He did have a 3.38 diff but it was open and the higher gearing made driving off very tricky (he described it as starting off in 2nd in a blade car).
At the minute he's looking at getting custom gears cut, but that will be pricey.
Any ideas or advice considered.

Thanks in advance

Ali

On my way to bed but....

I have a K2 in mine too and have no gear issues really (other than my ham-fisted changing of gear!!)

I've a 4x4 diff (LSD) and running 15"s 195 50. Not sure on the ratio but think it's 3.62 like your friends?

I've thought (and it's been suggested) about swapping to a FreeLoader diff as it's lighter and offers a better ratio but other than the 7k = 70mph = motorway hell theory the car performs brilliantly!

Do give me a shout if I can help further.
