Blade Oil & Water Temps during track day
Shall I start to worry?
Oil temp got to around 120.
Oil pressure hit just over 100, but droped to near 0 on idle back in the paddock.
Water temp was hitting 110.
Oil is Castrol Sperbike something (from Halfords) 10-40.
Time for a Polo rad instead of the standard blade one?

oil temp sounds ok, pressure on my old blade went as low as 8 to 10 when red hot and as high as 110 on initial cold start. but coolant temp sounds a
touch high, pretty sure mine was 80 normal driving and 86 ish on track with fan on around 95
A pint for the gent and a white wine/fruit based drink for the lady. Those are the rules

Pat - first thing I'd do is change the oil - it'll be past it's most useful after that cooking!
Larger Rad recommended... you did do warm down laps didn't you - this helps to normalise temperatures/pressures when back in the pits. We fitted
a manual over-ride on our Micra Rad which is pretty easy to do and fits nicely with the other switches we have. Switch this on, on the cool down lap
and at helps to get those temperatures back down... if your going to be doing regular trackdays I'd recommend fitting a seperate Oil
Cooler...

ive yet to do a trackday in mine, but ive not had the water over 90degs yet with the rad im using. My friends blade bike hits 100+degs a lot, the fan
comes on arround 102 on his bike.

Yep - standard blade rad with switch comes on at 100.
Swinging towards a polo rad at the moment.
And an oil change!

Hi Pat
There is some variation in how hot blade engines run because the first couple I had used to run a fair bit lower than friend's engines and also
the last engine I had which is obviously the engine you now have.
I never saw 120c oil or 110c water temps with that engine / rad though so Id check your cooling system is fully bled etc, and it may be worth baffling
around your rad so air if forced through the rad and doesn't spill around the sides, then if that doesnt work consider the Polo rad.
Id also consider an air/oil cooler which is something friends have had to fit to their blades for hard track use and certainly helps keep the oil
temps down.

Thanks Chris,
Might have something to do with the full floor or tight grill in the nose.
Will check the cooling system etc. 1st though.
Apart from that, engine performed faultlessly and is bloody quick.
Not had any oil or water leaking yet either which is a huge bonus after the Avon!

Yep a tight mesh grille won't help things and a full floor won't help air exiting the engine bay either as you've realised, maybe
you could put a couple of ducts in th floor to help.
Id definitely look at blocking off around the radiator though as Ive heard as much as 10c water temp drops from people that have done that.
Glad its going well, although other newer engine have overshadowed the blade recently its still a cracking choice IMHO
