mx5 chain diff
Has anyone tried making a chain diff using masda mx5 parts.
Thinking of using the lot, hubs, uprights, drive shafts and the diff in a midi
Any advice/thoughts??

You can use just about any diff for a chain diff. I have made one from a sierra diff and im currently doing one from a rover pg1 box.

I'm building an MX5 chain drive differential at the moment.
It is a Mk1 1.6 VLSD
 
mx5 vlsd with sprocket
I've mounted the sprocket on the outer rim and use a backing ring to bolt the sprocket on. The ring also locates the alloy oil can.
There are a couple of holes in the face of the differential which will need blanked off.

To keep the oil from exiting the output shafts I have made bearing carriers which use sealed bearings and an oil seal.

The 1.6 vlsd is not the strongest differential I have seen but should be capable of reasonable durability for road use - It may not stand 200bhp and
10" wide slicks!!!
It is a lot lighter than a Sierra LSD.
