Soft mounting a bike engine
I've been looking at the idea of using polyurethane bushes to mount the engine rather than hard mouting it
looks like i can't go with my original idea of using 3 3/4 outter bushing shell as i wont have the room between engine and mounts
so i thought about maybe just using a Polyurethane bush between the engine and mount something like these

Do you think that those are soft enough?
The ones on a bike are rubber (well the ones on my gsxr1100, but that is a dinosaur so maybe things have moved on).
Those ones don't look like they would have much give in them. Happy to be proved wrong though.

whats the benefit of soft mounting a bike engine?
aint most of them hard mounted on bikes?
wouldnt it effect the prop movement in a negative manor?
i have seen a few posts recently on this and im confused on the reasoning of it?

Yea most bikes are hard mounted as the engine is part of the rigidity i guess plus the two spockets need to stay alined.
the reason for me doing it was to take away any vibrations. it can't be a bad thing can it
i'm open to anything else that might be worth a try instead
Dave, the engine woulnd't be able to move it's just a idea of absorbing any vibrations
ETA i know Andy from AB performance talked about metalastic so it has been done before

If you're using shafts with end play, or a soft-mounted diff, soft mounting the engine may have no problems related. If you're chain
driven and you move relative to the other sprocket it could obviusly cause major problems. I made my own poly mounts for my cars diff when it fell
apart, cost me about £30 for a litre of mix and I had to prep the metal well, but it is still holding up. That way you could make your own bushes to
the size/shape/hardness you need.

My R1 is mounted on "metalastic" bushes. No movement to speak of ut absorbs vibration. 'll see if I've any photo's when
I get home.

coyoteboy, the prop does have some end float, but the engine won't have any movement like say a car engine is mounted
i'll only have something in between just to adsorb any vibs.

I was just looking at upgrading the bec with this system. The vibrations are killing cans.
My idea is to retrofit the seven with the bushes

IIRC MAC1 and other BEC manufacturers sometimes use a engine cage or cradle. These are normally rubber mounted. Could you not try doing that?
Or am I missing the point?
IF its just an exact bush size you need then take a photo and post it up. I bet somebody will be able to offer a solution.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I was going to go for these

but on one of my lower mounts on the right there isn't enough room between the mounting point on the engine and the casing itself
 
Description
as the 2" long bushings need 3 3/4 OD rather chunky, most other bushings arn't that long i'd want it to be atleast 2" for
strength
so maybe just something that would sandwich between might be a option
i do have a cradle but that is only 2 of the 6 mounts
i'll take a gander at Wadders archive
