Has the world gonemad
Visiting a mate of mine in the fabrication and painting trade today to drop off an MGF bumper to sprayed, this was sitting outside, i asked when the
owner was picking it up to have it crushed, ok its a genuine RS2000 but even so!
Apparently bought as a raod going example supposedly in good nick, mate has quoted around the 7k mark + Major panels to make it solid again, the owner
has obtained genuine inner wings and a roof panel from Germany for approx 2.2k.
The guy paid 2k so in a coupole of months he will have a solid but unpainted RS200 shell thats cost him 11.2k !!

UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

thought you were being a bit harsh when reading your description, but yeah, that's too far gone for me! Why not make a new one out of sheet
metal? it'd be easier!

My mates Bro, has done a full and complete concours rebuild of his Genuine Ford Escort RS2000 (it took him 10 years). Its pristine with new nuts,
bolts and washers etc, ie better than what rolled off the factory line. Its a showstopper.
He has won couple of trophies for it at shows, and it was valued at £17k (not valued by him either, I think it was the RS Owners Club who did the
valuation).
So a £11k rebuild, if its done properly could well yield him a profit.
Assuming its a genuine Ford RS2000.
Maybe the chap is not so daft afterall.
Just my 2d's worth

Assuming it's genuine, old Fords like that command good money and have a large following so it's probably not that daft.
It's also a car from my youth in that age range where you yearn for a car before you can drive - I wanted one! It must be getting on for 30
years old

what i don't understand is how that car, rebuilt to an as new specification retains its reg plate, but change it to take a different gearbox or
suspension setup, and it's a q plater!

If it was in useable condition to begin with then technically he's done little more than the kind of restoration you see on Wheeler Dealers, ok
this is a lot more in depth but he's still going to have a stonker in the end...
Also weren't they £15k new?

Simple answer, it will be as it was designed, not been "improved" by somebody or fiddled with, just rebuilt to be as it should.
Changing a gearbox or whatever doesn't result in any inspection etc at all.
Chopping a chassis or monocoque does, after all it seems reasonable to check it has been done properly and strength is maintained?

Have a good mate who has a very nice Mk1 that he competes in with a NA Cossie in it
A spare Mk1 shell that he is restoring and also a genuine 50k mile black RS2000 custom which is all original and he's restoring that aswell
When you see what genuine, nice cars are going for on the market, its better than money in the bank 
Some of the panels and parts that are getting harder to find are going for stupid money though

What's to stop you getting a standard Mk2 shell and a RS2000 log book, that doesn't look any different to a 1600 Sport I helped a friend
with in the 80s. I thought the RS and Mexico shells had uprated suspension tops and other trick bits for their rallying pedigree.

Nothing really and a lot of people do it, the real officinadoes know what to look for ie certain fixing studs are normally welded on a clone but
brazen on the genuine article. Etc etc

Makes me wish I'd kept hold of my Mk1 stuff when I gave up the dreams of historic rallying, sold a mint, fully restored with gen front wings,
freshly painted Mexico shell for £1800, a tidy Mex shell for £800, an RS2000 shell for £500 and a good 1100 pre-tax shell for £400. This was between 6
and 7 years ago, I look at the prices now and weep.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

RS2000 , 4.5K new , we had one , calypso green , black vinyl roof , custom - delivered from skippers of burnley........
genuine , that arent concours will fetch 10k
