Carbon airbox direction?

I've just finished making a custom airbox that mounts onto the DCNFs on my Lancia Montecarlo. It's fed from a carbon airbox I was given by a mate which in turn is fed from the rear grill (which air flows into once the car is moving, proven with wool

)

Anyway, I'd presumed that the airflow went from the outside of the filter to the inside. But this diagram shows different, so is it right? And does it really make a difference?

That diagram is wrong. The filter opening hole is often tapered inside like a velocity stack. Also the inside Would get dirty and be more difficult to clean.

Ta guys, Seemed all wrong to me too and I hadn't even considered fitting it that way until I happened to see this diagram.

I would agree with the other for the type of filter shown above.

For the pipercross type of foam filter they put in their airboxes, they do feed as per that diagram.
