petrol for R1

What fuel can a carbed R1 run with if needed? LRP 95, 98?

What fuel will give me the lowest emmissions for SVA? Do some burn cleaner than others?

I use Super unleaded in mine, no problems. wouldnt recommend LRP. normal unleaded will be o.k. though

Use 95. That's what they're designed to run on! Unless you have money to burn of course, and if so can I have some?

Either will do - though using 98 RON will produce more power, mpg and cleaner emissions.

Having used it on my car for over 18 months the benefits outway the initial cost so reduce the overall running cost's.

98 will only really be of benefit if you advance the ignition (I assume you havent done this). As the R1 and most bike engines dont have active ignition timing putting higher octane will have a similar effect to retarding the ignition and thus less power will be made.

So save your money.

Jim is absolutely correct. I use AVGAS 100LL in one of my bikes ('94 TZ250) which comes in with an octane rating of 102. If I use this in my KTM 500 hillclimber (recommended minimum of 98) it feels smooth but flat. If I mix it with Optimax it feels better. If I use just Optimax it feels fit!

The main difference is the temperature and speed of burn - normally the higher the octane rating, the cooler and slower the burn. Hence, you can run higher compression, but you have to advance the ignition timing. MY TZ250 would melt if I ran Optimax!

So, save your money - use 95 unleaded.....
