Fan switch...temp question...
wich is the ideal engine temp for an bike engine? they run quet hot don't they?
I know where can find in my haynes about my engine what his normal working temp is.
i only know that my thermos is fully opened @ 95degrees and starts opening at 82 or something.
about the fan switch says hayness 98cut in 93 cut out..but it seems quet hot don't?
wich switches do whe use?
and is the bigger car rad compensated by the margin of the thermostat?
Regards,
tks

All the engines Ive had have run at around 75-80c on the road, and 85-95c on track depending on weather.
The fan is only there to kick in when things get really hot, usually at around 100c or above so the figures you've mentioned are about right.
If you use a car engine (eg Polo), it has a boss in it for a rad fan switch, so you select a switch to give you the desired switching temperature. If
you use the bike rad then it will either have a switch as well, or will rely on the the bike's CDI to switch the fan on. Either way I would
recommend putting in a manual override switch so you can kick the fan in sooner if sitting in traffic or after coming in from a track session

ok,
Then i think
i will buy an 95 kick in switch..
and an 90 kick off.. (5 less i guess always)
then i have margin....
we will see what the temp does....
at least it doesn't stop earlier then that the engine is at his working temp...

Edit:
I have used an Fiat 127 rad and i have closed the side outlet and i use the switch boss for the rear outlet to the engine...
in that line i have made my own bos using stainless and an 22x1,5 nut...
the rad piece only has an 22x1,5 bolt welded to an t piece...
offcourse all in stainless TIG welded
would you go for the 98/93 or the 95/93??

As Chris says, book switching in temps are usually over 100c so I wouldnt go any lower than that.

Oh what about Rad question.
i suppose it depends what size the bike rad is and where it's mounted, personally though with all the room your gonna have spare in the mini i
would fit a modern car ally rad,
what do z-cars use as i suppose they will have tried and tested various combinations.
what engine are you using?
Chris
i'll be at donnington on the sunday, just preparing a shopping list at the moment to take with me
