Steering connecting rod too short?

I have just tried trial fitting the connecting rod from the steering column to the sterring rack and it appears about 50mm too short. I have an adjustable Seirra steering column and a modified link from MK. Having looked in my Haynes manual (2004 print) I cannot find any reference to dimensions etc.... can anybody help Thanks in advance

May be you have the first 'Stretch' MK?! Maybe the adjustable column is different but I believe the fixed column do have some adjutment if you slacken the aluminium cast clamp the hold the column to the car. The column slides a little in the clamp.

Cheers Steve

I was just wondering if the column may have been in a shunt and the trianagular shaft has been pushed inside any thoughts ...?

Mk told me that you can get hold of the triangular bit with mole grips and pull it out a bit. that should sort it out.
