Ignition trigger position

Hi

On my blackbird ingection engine there is an ignition trigger mounted on one of the cams. I'm in the process of making some adjustable cam sprockets and am unsure wether this trigger needs to be timed to the cam or the crank.

For it to be timed to the cam, I dont have to do anything with it exept machine a peg off it but if its to be timed to the crank then, i'll have to machine slots in the bolt holes to allow it to rotate with the sprocket.

thanks
Carnut
