Rear engined BEC

I am contemplating building a Sylva Riot using a ZX12R engine.Your thoughts on this engine, sutability etc and as a ball park figure what price should I be able to pick up a full engine plus ancillaries for ?
Many thanks.

Have a look in the 'for sale' section and speak to either colibiman or Yorkshire engines - both top blokes!

I originally looked at a R1ot with an R1 engine. I found that a normal BEC 7 had better weight distribution (slightly). I've seen a R1ot in the flesh and I'm not convinced with the styling. they seem to be smaller than a seven too. I believe that they are good though.

Why a ZX12?

Good choice of engine IMO but then I would be biased If you do go the ZX12R route, just try and make sure you get all the bits required like clocks, fuel pump, fuel sender, rampipes, air temperature sender. Some of these bits are easily overlooked but will cost you a fortune if they're not included in the price.

Hellfire.
I think I read somewhere that there might be an inherent weakness in the ZX12R gearbox?
Whats your opinion ? Is there a fundamental difference mechanically ie strenght/weakness using chain drive as in rear engined or prop front engined. Are any gearboxes "weaker" than others.
More I think the more questions to ask !

Have you seen ebay lately?

Might be a big saving to be had?!

There's a brand new riot kit, with Honda CBR1000RR engine, for sale as an unstarted project.

On a buy it now for 6700 quid. Lots of brand new stuff, etc.

I'd have it myself if I wasn't in Australia!

NTDWM,
Adam.

(or just search for Sylva Riot if that link doesn't work)

IMO the ZX12 is probably one of the best bike engines available for use in cars. Almost bomb proof, similar power to the 'Busa & more torque. I'd buy a complete bike, rob everything you want off it, then flog the bits on ebay, you'll get most of your dough back, plus you'll know you've got a sound unit, plus you can't be missing any bits - unless you're vey careless!!
